Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (known as Paper Mario RPG in Japan) is the second installment in the Paper Mario series, with the first being Paper Mario. It was released for the Nintendo GameCube in 2004. It was followed by Super Paper Mario in 2007. The plot of the game revolves around Mario, who embarks on a mission to collect the seven Crystal Stars in order to open the Thousand-Year Door. After hearing that Princess Peach has gone missing, Mario must also set out on a mission to rescue her from the beings that have kidnapped her. The game involved intermissions between each chapter, in which the player could play the role of Bowser, as well as Peach, who have their own sides of the story while the main plot continues to unfold.
