With a plot similar to BioShock, Ultima Underworld was set in a multi-level underground dungeon that was supposed to be a model for a new utopian society. As usual, somebody had to go and ruin it for everyone by summoning a demon and kidnapping the Baron's daughter in the process. Your task as Avatar? Hunt down the demon and rescue her from the Stygian Abyss. As one of the early 3D RPGs, Ultima Underworld was not only a great game, but it was a technical masterpiece when it debuted in the early '90s. It was the first 3D game to allow players to jump as well as look up and down in a fully realized world, making it one of the most immersive experiences of its time. With real-time combat, realistic item physics, and more, Ultima Underworld influenced the future of RPGs including the Elder Scrolls series and Fallout.
